YOUR PATH TO AFFORDABLE LEGAL ASSISTANCE

Money should not be a barrier to justice – and legal aid ensures that it isn’t. In the UK, legal aid is a government-funded programme that helps individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds get access to legal representation. By providing free or subsidised legal services, the programme ensures that everyone, regardless of their financial circumstances, has the opportunity to seek fair treatment under the law.

ARE YOU ELIGIBLE FOR LEGAL AID?

You may be eligible for legal aid in matters relating to:

  • Private family law: referring to divorce, separation, and child arrangement disputes

  • Public family law: when the Local Authority is involved with your family

To qualify for legal aid in a private family law matter, you must be able to provide evidence of domestic abuse or that your child is at risk. MI Banks Solicitors can guide you through the strict rules on what is admissible in this situation, as well as assess your case to work out if you fall within the financial limits. If you are involved in public law family proceedings, you will be entitled to non-means legal aid. Contact us today for further information.
